Recompete of the week
Recompete of the week: a $1.2M cleaning contract in Garner, NC
Every week I pick one real federal contract from the Veteran Rebids list that's coming up for re-bid, and walk through what the public record says about it. This week it's a cleaning job in North Carolina.
Janitorial Services for Garner VA Outpatient Clinic Located in Garner, North Carolina.

What the record shows
- The job: janitorial services for the VA outpatient clinic in Garner, North Carolina. The buyer is the VA's Network Contracting Office 6.
- The size: $1,200,540 for two years of work, June 15, 2025 to June 14, 2027. That's about $600,000 a year.
- The end date: the current end date and the potential end date are both June 14, 2027. The agency used its option year in June 2026, so no options are left.
- How it was bought: set aside for service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses, under simplified acquisition procedures. 23 companies bid.
- Last time's solicitation number: 36C24625Q0566.
How it went last time
The old notices are still on SAM.gov, marked Inactive. Here's the timeline they show:
- March 21, 2025: a presolicitation notice, with responses due March 26.
- April 4, 2025: the solicitation. Offers were due April 9, and it was amended four times.
- June 5, 2025: the award notice.
- June 15, 2025: the work started.
So last time, the first public notice came out about 12 weeks before the work started. If the office follows a similar schedule, the next notice could show up around March 2027. That's a guess from one data point, not a promise. It could come earlier, or the agency could extend the current contract instead.
What I'd do now
If I ran a cleaning company that could take on a job this size, here's my list:
- Read the old solicitation. Search 36C24625Q0566 on SAM.gov Contract Opportunities, with both Active and Inactive ticked under Status. The performance work statement tells you what they expect: the spaces, how often, and to what standard.
- Check the wages. The record says the contract is subject to labor standards, so Service Contract Act wage rates apply. Price your labor from the wage determination for the area. The accounting and pricing help page explains how.
- Get your registrations current. A SAM.gov registration and SBA's veteran certification (VetCert) are both free. See SAM.gov and VetCert help.
- Watch for the next notice. A saved search on SAM.gov for janitorial notices from this office will email you when something new posts.
- Talk to your local APEX Accelerator. They give free one-on-one help with pricing and proposals.
Twenty-three bidders is a lot of competition for a job this size. Being ready before the notice posts is the best edge you can get.
